Looks more like a hare to me. Carrion birds can be really viscious, they might have been attacking/bothering in the first place. :)
 
Its protecting its territory. Arthur acts like that if anything coming in the garden from birds to the neighbours cat - he has never killed one thank heavens but he will protect his patch no matter what.
 
Hare, not rabbit, and I just had to post that because I'm such a nerd:lol:
Felt a bit like pointing out that cannibalism and attacking bird isn't related but didn't want to sound too obnoxious:lol:
Never seen any herbivore attack birds like that though:shock:
 
I don't think it's a hare, it's probably an American wild rabbit, rather than the European type (which domestic rabbits are descended from).

Amazing piece of footage...it's amazing how viscious a prey animal can be if it feels threatened
