Angel has taken to pulling potatoe leaves through the run from the bags they are being grown in, and she seems to love them. I moved the bags out of her reach, but does anyone know if it's okay for them to eat potatoe leaves... I thought they might not be great for them. She hasn't had any bad effect from those she has had though!

Any help would be appreciated!:)

I'm fairly sure potato leaves are poisonous so I would definitely keep them out of reach, even if she's been ok with the ones she's eaten, it might have a cumulative effect.

Yeh potato plants are generally bad for anything that isn't specifically adapted to eat them.

So I would say not to let to eat them.

Did the poster mean the leaves of the fruit/veg?

Red, yellow, green and orange peppers are fine for buns to eat.

The leaves of all the solanacea family are poisonous, nightshades, potatoes and tomatoes etc. From what I've read even potato tubers should always be cooked before feeding to ourselves or animals, and that is also why you should never eat a potato which has gone green.

the leaves of potato and tomato plants and tobacco plants are deadly if eaten......anything green is (think green bits of potato although green tomatoes aren't too bad if cooked). All of the fruits and tubers contain a little of the tomatine/nicotine/solanine that the foliage contains but not sufficient to kill...just to give you a slight high.

They are all related to nightshade and if consumed in sufficient quantities causes death. If you ate 20 ciggies it would actually kill you but you only ingest a little of the nicotine when you inhale it so you can smoke with little effect. Thats why the victorians used to use pure nicotine vapour in the glasshouses to kill bugs (now illegal).

I didn't realise that peppers where part of the group too though.

Oh my god!!!!:( I feel awful about her eating them now - I will definitely pull the bags well out of reach of her run. I hope to god she hasn't done any damage to herself by eating them - she seems okay so hopefully she didn't eat enough to. Thanks for all the replies!
