  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bad soar on my rexs back

Snowy and Co

New Kit
:cry:I dicoverd this a few days ago but did'nt know what it was but it is still bad i thought it may have been when he was sitting under his water bottle or maybe caught it on something

thought i would ask you guys in case you new anything about it or if your rabbit had it and you found out how to stop it getting worse .

I don't know whether you were intending to post a photo as it didn't show up. Has your rabbit had an injection or anything recently. I know you can get lumps or things then.

Yes I agree with Hurricanhunny. Its hard to give an opinion when you can see what the scab looks like

my mini rex has had his sore about a week after he got neutered possiable allergy to the antibiotic, i tried everything bathing him ( which absolutly loved the shower) i treated him for mites, bathed in salt water, then put a teeny bit of baby oil on to prevent it hardening to much, as the tightness can causes itching as its healing, since hes got a wife though its healing up nice, taken 3 weeks mind

any chance hes jumped and scrapped his back ?
arnt rexes prone to a little fur loss and sore hocks etc ?

My Munch lost some fur along his back & had a small scab. It was caused by him going under a low opening to his litter tray. Once Id made the opening higher the problem went away

do you have other bunnies with him/her ?
if he/she got bit or scratched, wounds on bunnies abcess (sp) VERY easily!
he or she might even have abcessed if its back just got caught on something. watch it closely, if it gets bigger or looks like it hurts, maybe take a trip to the vet? better safe than sorry!
