Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

some of you may remember me posting about Kimmy having a wet chin last week, well I took her to my local vet who said he could feel slight swelling in her mouth. He gave her a painkiller and then said if she started eating that evening to cancel the appointment he had made for her the following morning. Kimmy ate and drunk a fair bit so I did as the vet advised but really wasnt sure what to do.

Kimmy continued to eat over the weekend but I have noticed she is avoiding using one side of her mouth to chew and her right eye is a little runny. I have been in touch with the RSPCA where I adopted Kimmy throughout this and they have been fab!!

They have told me I can take Kimmy to their vet tommorow where they will put her under anaesthetic and have a good look at her mouth. I am nervous and really hope Kimmy doesnt fall out with me because of it but hopefully they will be able to find out whats wrong.

I have only had Kimmy two weeks and she has brought so much to our home! So lets hope she is ok tommorow. Thank you all for your advice before it really helped!

Good luck.

Ask them to do a skull x-ray if she is having a GA, that way her teeth can be checked thoroughly.

Hope she is OK.

Kimmy was pts earlier on today at the vets, I am so upset I may have only had her for two weeks but she brought so much to our household.

The manager from the RSPCA where I adopted Kimmy from called me to say the vets said that her teeth were in a terrible state, cutting in to her tongue and mouth which would have been causing her a lot of distress. This was also contributing to her eyes being runny and becoming infected. I was advised that it would be kinder to have her pts, this was so hard but I know she is pain free now.

The RSPCA are looking in to why when Kimmy was previously checked by a vet this wasn’t picked up (she has been seen 4 times in the past few months).

The lady from the RSPCA was really upset; she has been so good with me from starting the adoption process to where we are today.

Kimmy didn’t seem in pain (I know rabbits hide it well sometimes) and was happily skipping around my living room this morning. This is how I will remember her.

It will be weird going home tonight; me and my partner will find the house very quiet without her.

Thanks guys for your support!

I am very sorry that the RSPCA Vet felt that PTS was the only option for a Bun with Dental Disease  You must be so upset

Jane, without knowing the exact details I don't think that kind of comment is helpful.

I'm glad the rspca were so good with you, I'm sure they only did what they felt best for her. At least you had 2 lovely weeks together.

I'm so sorry for your loss; I hope you can take some comfort from knowing that you must have made her last days such happy ones.

What an awful shock for you. I know how you feel, as when I left Floss at the vet last week it didn't enter my head that she wouldn't be coming home.:( Thinking of you.

I am so sorry at least you did everything you could for her.I hope this brings you some comfort.Sending a big hug for you.Binky free Kimmy

Im sorry Lucy but I think Jane only had the bunnies interests at heart and her comments were something that should be taken note of in the future.I think Jane has a lot more experience than the RSPCA where bunnies are concerned

It was very difficult and I was told that Kimmy would have been in continous pain, I didnt want to loose her I just did what I was advised by the vet (who is a rabbit specialist vet) that it would be kinder on her to put her to sleep.

It should have been spotted in her earlier checks (prior to me adopting her) which is why the RSPCA are investigating, maybe then it could have been treated, I miss her so much.

Thank you for all your thoughts it means a lot!
