feet problems again please help...

winnies angel

Mama Doe
As you know Winnie has very badly damaged feet from his previous home. They left him in a tiny cage in his dirt so his wee has burnt his feet. He is on pain relief for life now and has some fuciderm if they get really sore/bleed.As they will never get better.
I heard of a cream that is good and wondering if anyone else has heard of it as I forgot the name. Doh
Our vet said to try E45 when they are ok (not bleeding as they are never ok so to speak) we did but I think it must have stung he hated it.
I also tried baby bot cream grey container for nappy rash but he was a bit weird the next day so I stopped that.
Any suggestions?

Hi, sorry about Winnie, I haven't heard his story but it sounds awful.
We are firm believers in aloe vera gel for any sore bits, at the moment we are usuing it on Gigi's ears , our pig, as they got sunburnt and they are healing really quickly,it is also quite soothing so she doesn't mind, which is good when your handling a 7 month old pig.

Sorry to hear your bun has poorly feet.
Audrey has sore hocks and Mandy (her previous owner) did a marvellous job after she rescued her.
She had sudocrem put on her feet (Don;t know if you've tried it before, but it is harmless to bunnies).
Try to make sure all bunnies bedding is soft for the feet. A lot of people use horse matting for the cage. I make sure the litter trays have a layer of megazorb, then soft straw then the hay. Ensure everything is as dry as you can possible make it for bunnies feet. As Audrey is a housebun, I put fleeces down everywhere they run around the house, as apparently carpet can be very abrasive to buns feet.

HOpe you can get on top of bunnies poorly feet problems.
good luck
xx

pm ravens rexes she had buns with sore hocks and had several good ideas andcreams to use...

I use Flamazine for my Rexes sore hocks.
Its a POM so you'll need to ask your Vet for a prescription for it as I doubt your Vet will keep it in stock.

Thankyou

Well the sudorem is the cream I used but he was off colour next day may give another try though. Ill def look for some aloe vera gel, any suggestions where I get it?
If not then il try flamozine.
Im after something that can be used every day as they kind of dry out and thats when they crack. Recently done it badly was fine bit red then next day opened right up and had to go to vets for some steroid injections. Done the trick though.
Win is a tinker though and jumps around all over he doesnt think about his feet. (think thats down to his pain relief)
The hutch is carpeted but they dont use it they live in the house and has free roam all over.
If you want to read his background then check out their webpage www.hoppybunnyrabbit.com
Thanks again let you know how it goes. x

We get our aloe vera gel from our vet. We just buy it over the counter.
That's the problem with painkillers, the animal needs it but they don't feel when they are sore and can cause more damage.
Off to read Winnie's story now.

Just read the buns story, horrible how people can be, glad they've got you now.

What a lovely story Im so glad he was saved and is a happy bun now

Don't know how you would go about using it without getting a very sticky bunny, but manuka honey is supposed to be good for treating wounds, it has to be gamma radiated to kill off any spores in it.
I fed it to a bunny who had an abscess under her tongue, the vets thought it was a hopeless case, but she got betamox ( an penicillin based drug) and manuka honey, and she is still here. Can't say for sure the manuka helped, but I'd use it again, just in case.

I use Sudocrem too for sore hocks, it is more of a barrier I think but does seem to take the dryness away too. I tried the aloe vera gel from the health shop but that did not do much, didn't know you could get a cream so may try that.

Ive used manuka honey for abscesses.I would say if you were going to use it on sore hocks you would have to bandage the paw as well. You also need to get the honey with the highest UMF,unique manuka factor.I always use 25 or 30 UMF and buy it in Holland and Barret

sore inflamed burning

Poor win was back at vets yesterday. Feet are now very swollen and can feel heat coming from them. I really dont know why they keep flaring up its only recently that theyve started doing it. Hes obv hurting as he doesnt run about much and been really shredding my carpet and everything (alot more than usual) What can I do. I cant afford to re-carpet whole house and hes been fine for over a year cant think of anything which could be triggering it, nothings changed. Vets has said there is nothing more they can really do for him. Hes now taking his flexicam, Baytrill and getting fuciderm cream on. We have to bandage them up now and try and find some booties for him to wear? any ideas on where to get them too would be great. I feel like im letting him down.

Hi how long ago were the carpets replaced or cleaned in your house?i was just wondering if the scotch guard could be irritating his paws.If you dont have any improvement maybe it would be good to ask for a referral to a bunny specialist as It seems to be some kind of allergy. Also if his skin is broken and bleeding its not a good idea to use a steroid cream on his paws

Anything abrasive like carpet or concrete are bad news for sore feet.

At the rescue we have has several rexes in with appallingly sore hocks.
Lou has got them under control and gives them very deep bedding of Eazi-bed covered with very soft straw and hay.

I wanted to stop using the Fuciderm as I read the side effects and panicked but apparantly its the best thing according to the vets.
We haven't changed, cleaned done anything different to previous so we are stumped as to what it is. We do have carpet and he does run across patio to grass but he has from begginning and they've been fine so to speak but past couple of months just not good. He has kinda bandages on at mo which he seems to like. He was hopping about excited last night after putting them on I like to think he must find it fun to have furry feet. Poor little sod. Id like to meet his previous owners the :censored: and see how they would feel.

what about aloe vera gel? Would that help?

Goofball had that similar problem because she had 3 legs. So after she pees, I clean that spot, and I put vaseline on a very small area of her skin that has no fur on it to make it moist.
