  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Renal disease

Has anyone any advice about Renal Disease?

Arthur has suddenly taking to drinking the whole of his bowl of water in a day and his weeing is excessive, plus it looks clear and doesn't have that bunny smell.

He isn't even 1 yet, would it be possible that its Renal Disease and is there anything I could do for him before the vets opens on Monday?

Thank you

it might also be something as simple as a UTI aswell, Carlton was a drinking and peeing machine when he had it.

Awww UTI would be a nicer option. He is as bright as a button, poos normal etc but when I cleaned him out earlier the litter tray was swimming and I only cleaned him out the day before.

I was doing Carlton's tray daily aswell, poor little lamb. I hope it's something less serious like a UTI. I managed it with unsweetened cranberry juice, dandelions and another plant.... oh, i forget its name! I'm thinking fennel but it really isn't.... *scratches head*

Thanks Laura I hope it is simple too. Thanks for the advice as well, it really can't hurt even if its not UTI. I wish you could buy Dandelions online

i'm not sure if you've seen the Galen's Garden website? in the herbal tintures bit, top of page 2, they do a special urinary tract support liquid that has all the yummehs for delicate little wee pipes! looks like a really good site for herbal nomnoms, i'm going to go wild on it after my birthday!

Quote from that site Laura 'Parsley is too strong a urinary stimulant and should not be used.' Guess who raided my Herb garden and ate the Parsley! Yeap Arthur.
