Bonding Questions

Hi

My two boys (now 1 year and 2months) have now been neutered for several months, they had a fight when they were younger (3 monthd old) and got separated immediately. I was thinking of attempting to bond them but I dont think it will work as there natures are completely different.

Just wondered:

I know you have to bond them on neutral territory but whats the least amount of time that you need to keep them in that place providing the bond goes well?

I assume they will have little spats during this time, if it happens do I just break them up or should I spray water on them?

My instincts are telling me to leave the bonding but there are times when they are in their runs (two runs nexts to each other) that they look happy to see each other and it would be nice if they could cosy up together in winter times too!

Only you can make the judgement of if you are prepared to do this as you are the one who will be doing it. Some work, others don't. I have to admit for myself I am very dubious of bonding two males ........... but that is me.

whats the least amount of time that you need to keep them in that place providing the bond goes well? I always keep buns in the same place for a minimum of 48 hours then move them to another neutral place. They must not go into a place where one or other of them has been before unless that area has been thoroughly cleaned and desmelled.

If they have spats and no injuries are sustained pull them apart using a broom, count to 10 and then release. You may need to do this a few times in a row ... and many times ... spraying water can also work and clapping hands also. What ever you do, do not put your hands into the pen.

Cheryl wrote an excellent piece about bonding which may be of help to you http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?t=55913&highlight=bonding
