Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Panacur for baby rabbits

Hugo's There

Wise Old Thumper
Do rabbits have to be a certain age before they can be given Panacur?

I am concerned about the amount baby Tegan is drinking but she is only around 9 weeks old, is this too young to start her on a course?

thanks

If her poo is normal then I would say she was okay, when I first had 8 week babies come into care, I looked everywhere for an age limit, and found none, my vet said that if they don't specify an age limit then it should be fine, and normally it is. But if ever one of my buns starts to get soft/runny poo while on panacur I stop immediately, and the next day it's normally cleared up.

Hi there, I asked the same question to my vet, he did some some research with his panacur rep who wouldn't advise it until they were 12 weeks old, hope this helps X

Sorry, a related question - how often should rabbits be given Panacur.

Mind were given it last at a bunny MOT in January.

maufacturers say a 9 day course every 3 months but many say every 6. panacur is a minefield! i'd definately do a course now if bun was last done in Jan.

Thank you, do you have to get it from the vets?

nope, Pets At Home do it for £5.99 (the paste tube) which is cheaper than the vets, you can also but it online if you do a Google search.

if you get it at P@H, give them a ring first to make sure the qualified person is in, i made that mistake!

oh, and remember roughly what they weigh too, they'll ask you that.
