  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hair loss

Ok I know I may be overreacting here but Boris has lost lots of hair lately..it's been going on for about a month, maybe a little longer and I can't see why it's happening. Somebody told me it's normal but is it really? Could it be because of his diet or something? He seems perfectly healthy otherwise.

Sorry but he's my first bunny ever and I'm still learning. Just had to ask.

has your bunny got bald spots?

if not, bunny could just be going through a moult. if you observe your bunny in the sunlight, you may be able to see a "moult line" between old hair and new.

mine's been moulting for about 3 weeks, i'm sneezing something chronic!

All of my outdoor bunnies are moulting like mad at the moment and have been for about 3 weeks. They tend to lose it from the top down and there is a visable line between the old and new coat.

Sapphie looked like she had been attacked for a few days where it was falling out in tufts.

I brush my lionheads every other day, but some how missed Whittle last time, so when I brushed her this morning she hadn't been brushed in 4 days. I brushed out a massive ball of fur, about the same size as my mini lop.
