  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Major Loss Of HAir on the tail

Young Bun
hey all,

i have just picked up my rabbit today givin him a cuddle and i found out he has lost a lot of hair off his tail, i could actually feel the flesh. He seems to be fine, eating propery and always like a cuddle but i never ever seen his tail so hairless before.

I checked his bum area for any mites or scratches and he is very clean. When i touch his tail he doesnt seem to be in any pain or discomfort

is this normal??

 it probably is the little mites that buns have on their skin all the time.
the mites come out and cause a problem only when the bun is stressed..
has your bun been stressed about anything recently? vet trip?
you can get some stuff from the vet for it ..no problem :)
our bun got it when she was poorly:(

If they sit in their own urine, this can do it too. It does not sound as though he is doing that though. Maybe a vet tript to have him checked out.

My rabbit was neutered just over 2 weeks ago, he hasnt been stressed out, after the operation he has become a lot friendlier and doesnt poo every so much lol..

the post op check, the vet said he is fine and recovered very well. Is this a problem i should take to vet or will it grow back. It will be his 4th time to the vet this year and i just feel sad and scared everytime i take him there :(
