Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Recovery after neutering

ZakuraRabbit

Mama Doe
I've considered getting Tobi neutered (he's a bit older than 3 months at the moment) but I might be going to my mom's for two weeks next week, so I'm not sure when would be a good time to get it done.
Would it be okay to bring the rabbit to her house which is approx one hour away from mine? I'd rather not leave him alone with my dad or neighbors if he just got operated.

And I think I may have asked this before but in case someone has different opinions: How long should I wait before I try to bond him with a spayed female? (As she can't get pregnant no matter what)

If the female is already neutered I often pair them up 10 - 14 days after surgery.

Not to sure the secific time scale I know that your told to allow them to rest for a couple of days. Our Win was told not to go upstairs etc for a couple of days. I would probably wait till you come back as an hour is quite long tme anyway and cars disorientate buns it may be too much stress for him.
When our Win went to pick his girl he had been done 3 weeks she was only done a few days less than a week. It takes several weeks/ even months for him to totally be safe. So I would get a gal thats been done a while loads of rescues offfer this pairing service now as why should you (the human ) get to choose the friend if its the bun that has to live with them? Our 2 have never ever had a fight we believe this is down to the fact they chose each other!

I'm not getting another rabbit, I was planning to bond him with Zakura who was spayed over a year ago.

What if I found a vet clinic near my mom's house and do him while he's there? I think there is one, not sure how experienced they are with rabbits but I'll check, it may not be right by mom's house but there's no vet clinic within half an hour of my own house either anyway.
Gotta talk to my mom about it first though, since I'm not quite sure if I'll be allowed to bring a rabbit or not or keep him indoors, and if he's getting neutered I'd rather not have him outside, even if he is used to living in the shed already.. and I need to get another cage as he now shares one with his brother (who is not getting neutered, not yet at least and I have my reasons). So much preparing:roll:
