  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

So glad ive got you all!!Moved Mrs B into her hutch today. She had breakfast and some dandylion leaves but hasnt touched her apple half or her dried mix.
Seems relaxed enough.has pulled out fur but enquired bout that already as i got into a flap!!Should i worry? This is worse than having a new baby!!
Its not easy, taking in a stray, owners declaring they dont want him, then finding out its a girl, and knowing nothing about these creatures.Im NOT giving her up.She is so lovely.Quick lesson needed, please??Just the basics.I know shes hormonal, and having her speyed.

:wave:they do go off their food when they nest build...try raisins,or digestive, nice, rich tea sort of biccie.shredded wheat? some thing like that is normally enough to tempt them:lol:
how long since she hasnt eaten? if she hasnt eaten anything including hay by the morning you might have to phone the vet for advice..
chances are she will eat by then as its not pain thats keeping her from eating:) the vet may be able to give her something to relax her abit?! dont panic! and dont feel worried about asking so many questions it means you are a very good bun mum already!!

What kind of dry food is she on? If it's a 'muesli' type mix, I would recommend gradually switching her to a pellet food as this is higher in fibre (and so better for her) plus will stop selective feeding i.e. her eating the tastiest bits first!

Well, its been 24 hrs since Mrs B moved into her hutch. She has nibbled at her half apple, nibbled at Russel rabbit food and had a nice pile of dandylions i gave her this morning.Shes got some rocket now and some carrot tops for later or tomorrow.Just observing her really and talking to her, making a fuss but shes a bit growly.Ears are up and shes alert.Hardly any pooh, which im surprised about as theres usually loads.

Hi Yvette you are doing a fab job ! Does bun have plenty of hay ? I find a good basic veggie to give buns are spring greens. Start off with a small amount and gradually increase like any veg :D Dandelion leaves can be a diuretic and shouldnt be overfed.

Once she is spayed Im sure the hormones will calm down a little :) I always find a complete pellet food better than a mix, just gradually change over, takes about 10 days :D

Yes,she has plenty of hay.And i saw in Rabbitlopaedia last night that dandylions are diuretics,so stopped myself in time!! Im learning!!tho i do wish she would say "Mummy, thats just far too much dandylion leaves" Bless her!!
