  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sharp claws. Ow!

I do it once a month. I just sit them on my lap and holding paw in one hand, clippers in other.

Entirely depends on the bun and how they live. Some of my buns need doing less often than others, especially if they have ways of their claws wearing down naturally - like on paving.

I check their nails every few days to be honest - I am checking bums anyway so do nails at the same time. I clip them when they are just a bit longer than the pink bit inside where the blood flows.

For some of my buns this might only happen once every few weeks but for some others I nip them every week. Luckily they don't seem to mind if you handle them confidently and sit them on your lap. If I have a wriggler, their head will normally get tucked into/under my arm or my OH will hold while I do the deed.

Normally not a problem.:D

Think I need to show Stew who's boss. He just leapt out of my arms and binkied off with a big grin on his chops. Naughty, sharp bunny!

Oh my days I would never do it myself dont have the confidence, our lovely bun doctor does it who Misty absolutley adores!!!!
