:censored: Why why why do morons ring up rescues like ours and ask for rabbits or guinea pigs for breeding? Can anyone really be that stupid?
Apparently they are. I won't insult everyones intelligence as to why it's a bad idea (unless someone is misguided enough to think it is). Just can't believe the density of some people. I must get this at least once or twice a month I reckon, thats quite a lot of stupid people in small area really to be quite that thick.

Unfortunately some people don't really think about why rescues exits it seems...
They just think: Hey, baby bunnies are cute, lets try to breed some, and go looking for breeding partner wherever rabbits exist:evil: They don't think much longer than "Baby bunnies are cute", so there's no regard in whether the babies are purebred or where they'll end up later.

Maybe they think anyone who's had a rabbit for a week have to be breeding? Because of the "Breed like rabbits" thing and don't realize it is possible to have more than one rabbit without getting kits all the time.

The girls next door to me are getting guinea pigs and want them to hav babies, they're so young but i really told them off about how irresponsible it is, i also got them to go to a local rescue, but im not sure they will as they think getting them at P@H they'll be 'better quality'

Exactly, i told them about the breeders and the horrible things that go on and they were horrified. Also getting one from a rescue would be alot cheaper!!

This girl is less than 11, still at primary school, i told her parents as well and they said that they only want the girls to have as much life experience and i told them breeding alone is irresponsible but for your children at such a young age is the height of irresponsible.

I get kids ringing up for animals. If I suspect they are young and don't just have an immature voice, I ask if they work. The one today said, no but my mum does, so I said I would need to speak to the adult who was going to be responsible for the animal. Tht usually does it

I have to say though, at 15 I was calling a rescue and arranging a home check  We did end up with a lovely old collie out of it which the family loved, so not all kids are daft.

I went to the cinema with my cousin one day, She has a Dutch and an English in a Ferplast 100! Even that just makes me overwelmed and angery. She also got them both from P@H and then she says, 'Oh mum wants to breed the rabbits' God, I felt like Smacking her to the ground! to be honest. and Worst of it all it's from her mum wanting to do it. Parents should be more responsible! :censored:

i had a couple at mt till at work the otherday, buying lengths of wood and board and they happened to comment, well that was cheaper than buying a rabbit hutch.

so my ears pricked up and i said oh yes, hutches can be very expensive, i have two buns myself.

and the woman goes, aww our daughter wants to start breeding rabbits

:evil::evil::evil:

unfortunately i couldn't think of anything polite and unnegative enough to say back. but i've been thinking about it a lot since and wish i'd something along the lines of i hope you realise how often they can breed and you'll easily have a dozen breeding rabbits in a few months time. you can guarantee they didn't have a clue what they were getting themselves into.

i just feel so bad i didn't say something :(

and it was only last week that our local rspca was appealing in the paper for homes for its 30 odd buns in rescue :(

god   i can understand you wouldent phone a rescue and ask for a breeding guinea or rabbit thats silly but breeding needs to happen even if only a few animals in the world do it we cnat be one minded as there are 2 sides to evry story

where did we all get our animals??? the moon? no a litter rescue and non rescue it works both ways

but yes there are alot of rescues but not all animals end up in rescues alot end up in loving homes and im not slating anyone!

i said it works both ways

When i was in primary my best friend got two guineas from a rescue and kept breeding them, they were in a tiny hutch. He was breeding mum with son :? One day i went round just after the mum had more babies and my friend was carrying the guinea pig by its fur  even for an 10 year old thats a ridiculas way to handle an animal, so i offered to take the male guinea pig. I named him Toby and kept him a few months before i rehomed him with a close friend.

Erm... no it doesn't actually. If it wasn't for irresponsible breeders, there would not be animals given to people who don't want them who then end up in rescues.

we're not denying there are two sides to every story, but don't forget, ill use your phrase, it works both ways

Ultimatly, there are people on here who breed responsibly, and homecheck for the babies. There are also absolute morons in this world who think its acceptable to breed when there are people slaving away to look after the discarded stock from over crowded people.

so before you slate people for having an opinion, please think.

Breeding should be left to people who actually have a good understanding of genetic makeup and know a rabbits history. It's not very responsible of us otherwise so assuming that it is right to breed just because 'we have some animals and are able to do so' doesn't mean it is the right or responsible thing to do.

We've had a few people call here asking if we have any animals for rehoming (mainly buns and pigs) - I generally send them over Bunnymadhouses way:oops:

Last week we met a chocolate Dutch breeder who offered to show us around his set up after hearing what we did with boarding etc. To be honest I was expecting to be really upset and horrified by what we saw but I had a really lovely suprise. There were approx 60 rabbits but they were all in good size hutches on a good diet, had plenty of head room, binky room and hay, water etc and they were spotless. A few of them were Champion show rabbits and there were some adorable babies. As much as I dont agree with breeding whilst there are so many homeless buns in rescues, it was nice to see someone who looked after them properly after reading and hearing so many horror stories about bad breeders.

yes I am sure there are good breeders. :) What I don't agree with is people doing it 'for the sake' of it and because they think having un-neutered animals means it is ok to do so, without really having a good understanding of what they are doing or even why they are doing it.

It all comes down to supply and demand. If most responsible people get animals from rescue rather then breeders the demand for breeders will decrease. There will always be accidental litters and some animals from breeders but if we can get numbers down to the level actually wanted as pets, and then the ones in rescue being there only a short time until rehomed the world will be a much better place. The post is about casual breeding by people who have little thought for what they are doing. (I'm glad you edited by the way - the original version was way inappropriate!!)

I am on very good terms with a breeder near me, she loves her animals and they are pets first if you get me. She breeds British giants, Lionheads and Minilops and her dad who is a carpenter, has made 8ft blocks for them

She is going to see if he can do any for me cheap
