  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye probs again

Today its Simba's turn :? Went in to clear up their room and he was hiding up, when he came out cos i got out the dried grass and herbs, i noticed on one side of his face that his fur looked a bit wet. Thought it had just got stuck to his eye so brough him downstairs to sort him out.. there was loads of yellow goo sticking his eye up and fur all stuck to it. I've bathed his eye, then found a bit of hay, possibly a bit of hayseed, and managed to remove that. His eye is really red looking too :? Luckily i still had some fucithalimic eye ointment from the last eye problem here so i've put some of that in.
Why does simba and fifi seem so prone to sticking hay in their eyes?? Its happened quite a few times in the last 18months :? Obviously if the drops don't sort his eye out i'll get him to the vets;)

:)

your rabbits probably enjoy digging about in thier hay..and if the hay is finely cut..particles can get in thier eyes...iwould suggest changing bedding to "recycled paper" shreds which are made animal friendly..you can buy these from "pets at home" they are also not dangerous to eat although the bunnies will still need hay for eating :) hope i helped :);) x also because they are lionhead rabbits they are more prone to getting hay in thier fur which will get in thier eyes when they munch on it .
