  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

earlier i noticed a big chunk of dylan fluff on my carpet, i didnt think anything of it becuase he tends to leave a little trail of fur when he has been cleaning himself. iv just noticed tho he has a little bald patch on the side of his neck. i had a little feel and its not bloody or like a scab but very crusty and hard feeling. its not a lump either but is slightly raised. there is no puss and its not wet or anything. do you think it could just be over ambitios grooming or something more serious. he hasnt had a change in temprement or behaviour or anything....should i seek vet attention??

Have you recently had him vaccinated? It's been talked about on here before, it's common with VHD jabs that they lose a little fur and gain a scab..

yeah, on thursday, i had thought that but was sure his jab was more on the top of his neck. that does fit tho if thats a common thing, phew!!!

Yeah, you're alright hon :) I've also heard on here it will eventually "fall off"

I still have my two to get their VHD jabs :) just had their myxi jabs

Sometimes following vaccinations or following baytrill injection you can get a scab formation which is where the 'medication' has tracked below the skin. Often it looks totally normal until the fur simply peels off.
