  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vaccination

Well since Boris grew up in a flat in the city and never really had any contact with the outdoor life before, vaccinating him was unnecessary,or so everybody told us. But how about now? We moved about a month ago and have a little garden now where he is allowed to run every once in a while (not very often actually since we don't have a run for him and he isn't entirely comfortable with the harness) and I'm worried about him catching something. I did some research on myxi and apparently it's not in my area, should I vaccinate him anyway though?

my vet said even house bunnies need to be vaccinated.. we can bring the outside in with us everytime we enter the house.. i think you should deffo get your bun done asap :D

My 2 are indoors - they never go out as don't have a garden - and are still fully vaccinated, flys etc can still get indoors :(

Ok,thanks. I was seriously considering it and now I most certainly will. I'll call my vet asap :) I've never heard of any rabbits in my area falling ill but it's better to be careful I guess.

Hi
my house bunny is also vaccinated. It's a just in case really, but better to be safe than sorry.

I'd definitely get them vaccinated regardless of whether indoor or outdoor buns. If you ever went away and needed to board them it would be a requirement of the majority of good boarding places that they had up to date vacs against Myxi and VHD.
