  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Smaller poops,should I be worried?

When I went downstairs to feed Boris this morning I noticed his poops were a lot smaller than usual, about half the size almost. I changed his diet yesterday, gave him cucumber instead of lettuce, less pellets and more hay. Could that be the reason for why his poops are so small? I know smaller poops could be a sign of blockage as well and I'm worried about my bunster boy.

I'd monitor carefully and see if he is eating. If poops get smaller or stop then I'd see the vet. Eating lots of hay is the most important thing (80-90% of the diet) as this will keep the gut moving and keep his teeth busy.

Hope all is OK :D

Thanks,I'll keep an eye on him. He seemed to be eating all right yesterday at least, all the pellets I gave him last night were gone this morning and a lot of hay had vanished too.

Eeek I'm not sure he's eating properly today,he doesn't usually eat much during the day but he barely touched his cucumber and didn't want apple  I'm getting really worried as we're going away till tomorrow afternoon and have nobody to watch him..

Whoo dont leave him all alone if hes ill id get him to a vet asap before he gets too ill to get better n lettuce (iceberg) should not be fed to rabbits
:(

Update: He's fiiiine! :) He's eating more than ever and his poops are looking normal again! I was so worried about him yesterday I just couldn't leave him,I stayed home and spent the whole evening trying to get him to eat,and he seems all right now.
