Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

cost of myxi jab?

I just had both my rabbits vaccinated against myxi and it cost £65 - felt a bit expensive? it's the first time I have been to that particular vet as I am new to the area.

Very expensive. My buns myxi jabs were 12.47 each!

My girls spay was 32.68 each! So your jabs for your two buns were about the same as my two spays!

well many places are different, did they charge u a consultation plus vaccs? did they charge you for TWO consultations??

I pay £13 per bun, and that includes a consultation and health check.

in my opinion that is quite high, but it depends on your area xxx

Thanks - thought it was high as I used to pay less for my cat to be vaccinated!

I am about to move so will look for a new vet after the move... I am supposed to go back in 2 weeks for the VHD jabs but I think I will try somewhere else!

There was a brief check, but it did not justify the cost I don't think - ears, heartbeat and checked that they are indeed both girls, phew!

Just phoned to check how much the VHD jabs will be: £32.66 each so another £65 for my pair....

yeh i once had a prob with an old vet bcus they said 'free health check included' and he didnt check everythin in my opnion, i wanted a weight check, teeth check, etc!

i would shop around so to speak, bcus some places will try and charge you two consultation fees, which in my opinion is wrong, soem places will charge you for one, and some wont charge you at all for the consultation, just the jab.

Are you sure you didn't pay for both at the same time? My vets do a reduced rate if you get both done so I get charged about £36 when I get the myxi done but then don't pay for VHD, sounds like that could be what happend, so they charged you for the whole course at once

No, I got home and thought that I must have paid for both, but I phoned to check and they said that VHD would be another £32.66 each

i pay £20.80 for myxi and £20.80 for vhd,£74.50 for spey and £55.50 for neuter no discounts for multiples.

I am annoyed now! should have known that because this is a 'posh village' the vet would charge accordingly.
Oh well, won't be going back there again!!

Did they administer the Myxi jab correctly?

Most of it should be injected normally but I think 10% should go into their skin.

Yes it does seem quite expensive, but if there aren't any other decent rabbits in the area I would prefer to pay the extra than take them to someone who doesn't know rabbits :?

My VHD vacs were about £25 each, which is not cheap, but I like the vet so I will stay with them.

Yes myxi was injected correctly, I had read about that on this forum :) and checked. I am moving in about 6 weeks anyway so I will shop around for a good vet in Bicester when I do

Thanks for all your replies... Basically I paid more than anyone who replied!
I just can't afford this vet, it wasn't a particularly nice surgery or good consultation, so I think I will just go in and collect the books and cancel the next appointment, I am going to say something about the price when I go in otherwise it's going to bug me!
