  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

hi

my rabbit has gi statis i have noticed he started to eat but no poo its been 5 now he's had 3 trips to the vet . i have a few days worth of antibiotics and medicine to make him pass wind, but i could do with some more pain killers althoe he does seem to not be in to much pain id rather give him something if i can.

Did the vet say why they gave him antibiotics? It's not normally a good idea to give oral antibiotics to a rabbit in stasis because antibiotics are something that can upset the gut further. Plus they are only useful if there is something causing the GI that can be cured with antibiotics.

Aww hope your bunny gets better soon. I think the only pain killer available is from the vets its Metacam, there maybe another one but only a vet can prescribe it. Perhaps you could pop down first thing in the morning :D

Hello

What pain relief did your Vet prescribe?

Janex

i dont know the vet gave the pain killers at the surgery i was hoping there was some of the shelf medicine people had tried that works

Yep, you can't buy bunny painkillers over the counter. It's all prescription only. The vet painkiller jab should last at least 24 hrs.
