Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

URGENT HELP PLEASE! Mucus covering poo!

Please can someone help me? Ive just got back from work and found one of my rabbits has done two really sloppy poos and they are covered in something which looks like mucus or a sticky jelly-like substance. Can anyone tell me what it is please and what I need to do??

It means your bunny has enteritis. You're best to make a vets appointment. Give him some pro-biotics if you have any.

If he looks unwell (lethargic or grinding his teeth in pain) you need to get him to a vet today.

We had a baby with that once and we managed to save it , what worked with us ( and this was really runny diarroehaa) was allen and page pellets and loads of hay and this baby was 8 weeks old , we didn't even have to take it to the vets .

Just got back from vets. Said to keep an eye on her and that it could just be that something has upset her stomach. She seems pretty ok in herself so just gonna keep an eye on her and see how she goes. Thanks for all the advice!!

Feeding lots of hay and not too much of anything else for a couple of days usually helps poop issues :)
