Pretty climbing plants, that are not easy to kill

SOAD

Wise Old Thumper
Hello I need to have some trestles where my new hutch and runs are going to be going on Saturday, as the back of hutch is facing the house. I would like to put some climbing shrubs type, flowers that are 100 animal safe. Although the buns wont be eating them they may blow/grow in? They need to be hard wearing as I'm rubbish at keeping them alive, also preferably one that doesn't attract loads of spiders?

Ta :D

Actually what about something like potted bamboo? Thats animal safe and grows really high (hence the potted idea otherwise it can take over).

Or Mini willow trees, though they may not last long if the rabbits get hold of them

climbing roses!!

I got one without thorns and altho the buns are allowed to eat it they've only had a couple of leaves off it, obviously not that tasty!!

i was going to say a rambling rose of some sort..also blackberry (not that pretty but yummy leaves and fruit)

I dont know if it is bunny safe, bun i know a climbing plant we used to have before the buns got polygonon or something? Mum called it "mile a minute" because it grew so fast and effortlessly?!

What about growing a vine over the back of it, look for a seedless variety and you can eat it. It would need cutting back each year.

Blackberry or taeberry would also be nice and they dont grow too fast and take over.

I would avoid the really fast growing plants as you will end up having to do a lot of maintenance each year.

All clemetis, ivy, wisteria are all poisonous

OK thanks for the suggestions, I am not the best at gardening . Right can I buy all these at the garden centre, I don't know what any of them look like so not sure what the difference is between them all  are they easy to grow? should I go for a mix off all of them or stick to one?

roses are easy peasy, you just stick them in the ground and feed them every now and again!!!!

the garden centre should be able to help you find them, my garden centre have loads of roses of various colours and it usually has good info on the card!!

They should also have all their climbers grouped together to make it easier for you :)

Wicked I will go and have a wonder round on Sunday, I will hopefully be able to get some as that area will be ready for the pretties :D

Yes, I agree about roses.

Actually you do have one of the country's leading specialist rose nurseries, David Austen Roses, on your doorstep at Albrighton near Wolverhampton.

http://www.davidaustinroses.com/

They have huge display gardens (http://www.davidaustinroses.com/english/Advanced.asp?PageId=1912) and a tea room. This is the best time of year for rose displays so why not go along this weekend and have a good look and sniff around.

If you want a specific recommendation, how about this one - Zepherine Drouhin (http://www.davidaustinroses.com/english/showrose.asp?showr=619).

"Although the individual flowers are not particularly fine in themselves, this is one of the best and most reliable of all climbers. Great quantities of fragrant, deep rose-pink flowers are produced with exceptional continuity. It is particularly happy on a north wall and may be grown as a shrub or for hedges. 12 ft."

This is a bourbon rose, so has no thorns to harm the bunnies and has an intense "old rose" scent. And it's a climber. I have one in my garden and it's my second favourite only to another bourbon - Mme Isaac Pereire (http://www.davidaustinroses.com/english/showrose.asp?showr=551), which has the strongest scent of all the "old roses". This is not officially a climber but will climb if you encourage it. Once established, the blooms can be 7" across.

That would be Russian Vine (Fallopia baldschuanica, previously Polygonum baldschuanica) aka mile-a-minute. Very vigorous and very very difficult to get shot of! Not sure if it is bun safe but it can take over very quickly.

Albrighton isn't far at all, whoohooo will go and have a look :D never heard of David Austin before

Yes go for a rambling rose!

Anything else will be eaten in a morning, even my roses have not been safe this year from my two terrors :(
