Two Rabbit Residence erm residence

Mama Doe
Just wanted to share the story of these two permanent residents. Gorgeous bunnies Henderson and India.

Henderson came in a few months ago in a terrible condition. He was unloved and had extremely bad mites and sores on his back. He has really overgrown claws and fed on a mix that had locust beans in which can cause blockages. He had a very dirty bottom and poo stuck all over his tail and very broken sore skin. He is the sweetest fella, really lovely natured and yet had spent 4 years stuck in a tiny (3ft2ft hutch alone). When his owners dropped him off at the rescue they commented that they never knew rabbits could be so friendly and intelligent and that Henderson was timid, unfriendly and jumpy!! Anyway after a lot of love from Caroline and all us volunteers he is making real progress and become a real beauty. Sadly he went through a stage of weeing on himself (through his own wonky equipment ) he has been diagnosed with E.coli. His skin has improved vastly but it is left tough and scared.

Henderson has now been bonded with India who has her own special story too. India was handed in to a vet practice as a stray so nothing is known about her past. She was in terrible condition also and had severe abscesses in her ears leaving her very uncomfortable and irritated. Due to her ongoing health problems Caroline decided to keep her as a permanent resident too. Sadly for India she can be a very happy relaxed rabbit but as soon as you start interfering she becomes tense and cross. Her ears are still cause for concern, surgery is very complicated and the risks are extremely high. She is also prone to spikes on her molars and the abscesses put strain on her immune system . Her condition often fluctuates and we need to ensure she doesn't lose weight. We intermittenly clean puss out her ears to make life a little more comfortable. She has been rebonded with Henderson since the link because he is also a permanent resident and it wasn't fair on India's previous husbun to deny him a forever home.

Henderson is a real lovely bunny. I've had more to do with him than India because I generally clean out the quarantine bunnies and get to know them. He had to have all his back fur shaved off while the mites were treated bless him.
