shiros saliva/wet chin

Hi you all,
my shiro has some "teeth/mouth" issues since last sunday night, and we don't find out what is exaclty happening...
Sunday night we found her wet nose/chin, and we saw the vet on monday. As the wet didn't found any inflamation, teeth problem, we conclued for a cold (we already went for one cold a month ago: clear wet nose but no discharge). She had batryl. Has she was still drooling (I don't know if it is the right word...)/ saliva on the chin, I gave her some metacam and it stop almost immediatly. The day after (wednesday) without metacam she drool again, chewing like eating, and wasn'et able to eat big hard stuff (celery branches, or the fenugreek crunchies for exemple) Parsley leaves and oxbow pellets went in without any difficulties. We go back to the vet on wednesday and they kept her to a smal anesthesia and more deep look. They cut out the spurs too.
This morning she was still drooling, and chewing, and seems quiet poorly too. She was willing to eat again hard stuffs (carrots, celery, crunchies) but the drooling stuff really bothered us. We went back to the vet (the one we use to have, but havent seen Shiro because his timetable was packed) new and accurate check: nothing visible inside or outside. He told us that it can be the side effect of the procedure, and if not, an infection on the teeth root, but nothing really bad as nothing is visible (no abses...). He gaves her a injection of a strong painkiller, and ramp up the dose of metacam, with batryl to keep on (we stop since the procedure on wednesday). I didn't want to make her sleep again for the Xray today, so we will wait till monday, as she well eat and run.
I am quite worry, because the metacam should have do its effect after the procedure... does someone already has this type of case?
I am wondering if they should not have done an Xray on wednesday, when they made her sleep for the procedure, as there was nothing visible with eyes? Don't you think that and root infection might happen without any ouside visible rednees/signs of inflamation on the gum?
I am really worry for my poor little shiro...
thanks in advance,
cecile

Hi
They can "dribble" and get wet chins due to teeth. One of mine was dribbling as he had a spur and it had cut into his cheek and his cheek was inflamed. The spur was removed and he was given Baytril and Metacam. He was OK after a couple of days.

Does your rabbit look like it has a temperature e.g. breathing more heavily than normal? This could be a sign of an infection and would need anti-biotics.

I hope he improves soon.

thanks for your answer
No she doesn't in pain or having fever, we are monitoring it since monday.
I hope it will goes away soon.

oscar dribbles when he eats, and when he gets over exited, but i went to the vet for a dental check up, and he said his teeth are in great health

i have no idea what causes him to dribble though
when he finished his pellets, the bottom of the bowl is wet from the dribble!

thanks for your support
Shiro still wet this morning... Nose and chin, always and seems to have some difficulties to grab and chew hard stuff, but still well eating and jumping. That is the most bothering, cause we really don't think she suffer at all...
We are really lost that the vet let us with her like that without any other advices....
So we decide to get another advice, from an other clinic, that have a referal small animal consultant. We won't see her today, but at least have a second advice...
I am quite surprise that an Xray hasn't been made while shiro was asleep for th eprocedure, as the mouth wasn't reflecting any damages...
I know that my french vet will have been done that first... anyway, we ll see...
I am a bit desperate, I hope we will find out soon...
Thanks,
cec

nothing more from the yesterday visit to an other vet. Nevertheless, this clinic has a specialist small animal// exotic animal, we took an appointment we this vet on monday...
Shiro still wet, seems even more...
We hope that monday it will finish, or we ll find out what it the problem...

Hi,
sorry duchess, but I don't understand at all what you meant!
Though, we saw the bunny spe vet.
She made a complete examination, and just found out that shiro has a really vet mouth and a small ulceration on the... Don't know the word... inside the mouth, anyway.
By the way shiro stop drooling, but still have some difficulties to get hard food... If things doesn't get worse, or even better, I don't know what we should really do... get more examination (Xray etc...) or let her like that if she doesnt seem bad?
I think will see, depending on what happening...
cec

The ulceration could make her dribble, is she being treated for this.

Personally I would get another opinion if this does not clear up (especially if she is on meds and they are not working).

I hope she is ok.

I saw my vet two days a go as my bun had a similar problem it turned out to be an absess, but the vet says if he is dribbling this is not good and some thing is wrong, so take him in asap.
