Smaller darker poos?

What do smaller and darker than usual poos mean? I have noticed it tonight with Fiver, and with Jack and/or Taz (hard to tell as a pair). I am worried that my latest batch of hay isn't up to the usual standard - could it be that? Thay don't seem to have eaten much of it today, although they all seem fine in every other way. Thanks

my little monsters poo change if i change hays or the hay i usually use is slightly different. it goes darker and smaller for a couple of days. i give him cooled boiled water in a cup to make him drink more and prevent his system from slowing down. it also goes darker when he has spinach or parsley. it always goes back to normal.

Smaller harder poos indicates reduced gut motility. This may well be due to the fact they have not eaten as much hay as normal. As Lauralou says getting them to drink more will help as will poviding them with a different hay and making sure they get lots of excercise. A few dandelion leaves are good to feed too. If the problem continues once you have tried the above then the Buns would benefit from a Vet check of their teeth.

When i was experimenting with B's cage by taking out hay as bedding and just having hay in rack ,i noticed her poos were small and darker but when i put hay back as bedding too they went back to normal,so i guess she wasn't getting the fibre she needed.

Poos

Jack-Jane gave you a great answer. It's not always a major concern, but certainly something to be aware of, and keep an eye on. Whats important is whether your bun is actually eating. If they're not or are earing less than normal then I'd be wondering why. A change in diet is an obvious explanation.

Hope all's ok now

Well still small and dark, but all bunnies seem fine. Have all had dandelion leaves today. They are all exercising as normal. Pellets and veg have been eaten. Have started the next bag of hay tonight, so hopefully that might help. Will pop to pet shop tomorrow to get a bag of different hay. Will keep an eye on them. Thanks again.
