Hay

dinklepip

Alpha Buck
just been reading up on Stasis, as being a bunny mum, have to know all these things don't we.

Anyway, just wanted to know the difference between Alfafa and Timothy hay, and how do I know which one I am giving my babbs, I just ask for a bag of fresh hay from my local pet shop, which he gives me loose rather than in those vaccumed bags

Are you in the UK? Chances are the bagged hay you are buying in a pet shop is just normal meadow hay - which is absolutely fine to feed in unlimited quantities. The more 'specialist' hays like alfalfa and timothy are much more expensive so the hay will more than likely be labelled specifically if it is one of those.

Alfalfa hay is very high in calcium and protein and should only be fed to growing bunnies - I would not feed alfalfa to a healthy adult. Timothy hay can be fed to adult buns in quantities as unlimited as your bank balance will allow - but there is nothing wrong with just feeding meadow hay if your bun is eating it.

I would just ask next time you buy it, but I'd be 99.9% certain it's just normal meadow hay :D
