  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just wondering if it is necessary for rabbits to have their pellets? all my rabbits have always had pellets and hay but since Jess came out of hospital following his bout of GI Stasis, he won't touch his pellets, onlu leaves, spring greens etc and hay. I think that's what they gave him to eat in hospital. Is this ok???

Bunnies can manage very well on the diet you have described. But as he used to have the pellets just keep an eye on his weight. As a matter of interest were his teeth checked when he was at the vets?

yeah. they said his back ones were a little long but not long enough to cause him any problems at the minute. I have a lot of dental issues with my other rescue girl Twinkle. She has to have dentals every two or three months. he's much brighter today than he has been all week though - binkyin round like a good 'un!! so hopefully his tummy will hold up and he'll get better and better. Ill just keep the pellets out in case he fancies them but as long as he's ok on what he's eatin. Thanks Chloe!!
