  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lillie - mysterious lumps

Pepsi's People

I took Lillie to our vets last night as she was only eating small amounts of grass & leaves in the garden and refusing her greens & SS pellets. Our vet has noted 2 unusual lumps in her abdomen on previous visits and felt in the absence of any other obvious causes that these needed to be checked out under GA today. She is home now recuperating and he has taken samples of the lumps for histology. Apparently they are quite solid egg sized lumps near to but separate from her kidneys. She was spayed about 15 months ago. Any ideas what they might be?

Just fat!

Had the results today. They are just fat deposits. Vet now says she should go on a diet  I didn't think 2.6 kgs for a medium sized rabbit was too bad but I've been told to aim for 2.2 kg.

Well that's good news :D

Weight wise it depends so much on the bunny - they are quite small to start with so a few 100g either way can actually be a lot in proportion.

I'd recommend a treat ball and cutting down pellets ;)
