Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye Problem *back from vets*

MilliesMam

Warren Scout
Hi all:wave:
I don't post often but could someone help? (I've got her at the vets at 2)
Millie has a bad eye, It was a bit red on Sunday I bathed it and it seemed fiine. Last night I noticed its gone cloudy and theres something actually in her eyeball itself , I'm beside myself they both had their VHD's on Friday could it be a reaction or something unrelated?
She binkied this morning and is eating but not scoffing everything in sight as usual
Thanks

When you say there is something in the eyeball itself, what does it look like? Is the cloudiness on the pupil or is it a milky discharge?

Hi:wave:
Thanks for replying

It's really wierd
her eye is really dull/cloudy looking at it closer there's something that looks like it's actually inside the eyeball that's white!
but no discharge or temperature , she's a bit quiet but not really poorly, scoffed her vegies no probs and had a binkey this morning fine
Am off to vets at 2 but usual one sick

Like a small spot on the pupil?

Certainly get her to the vets. When was she last Panacured?

she hasn't been (I only thought about it after last Monday! I've got a few family problems that have me pre-occupied at the moment:evil:) It was what you said about the eyes that started me panicing this morning
After Rory I've been worried about the VHD too I had yesterday off just in case, but everything seemed okand while I was there I completely forgot to ask about Panacur

How often should they be dosed? Cracker was treated at Barc when should he have some more?

If it is a cataract which the vet will confirm for you (hard to be sure without a picture) then she should go onto a 6 week course of Panacur and I would give Cracker the same as a precaution.

It will be cheaper to buy a bottle of the 10% oral solution for cats & dogs online, get your buns weighed at the vets and ask for a 1ml syringe. You may want to start on a tube of paste whilst waiting for the liquid to arrive and your vets should give you this.

The dose for the PASTE is one graduation per 2.5kg of rabbit
The dose for the LIQUID is 0.2ml per kg of rabbit

As her eye also appears sore and maybe infected your vet may prescribe some antibiotic eyedrops, Fucithalmic may be better than Tiacil as they contain a steroid to help with inflammation as well as being antibiotic.

Thanks Sooz:) our own expert!!!

I tried to take a pic and I've got some lovely scratches to show for it!(she's still quite lively)

I'll let you know what the vets do, I just hope I get a savvy one!
once this scare is over, how often and for how long would you suggest Panacur, as a regular preventative treatment? (couldnt find a thread on here that's why I posted)

No expert, I just muddle by as best I can.... there is so much to learn :oops:

There are so many opinions on the preventative course, how effective it is, how often it should be given, the risk of over treating etc etc but my personal preference with a bun who is *suspected* to be EC positive and her partner would be to give them both 9 days every 6 months just to keep the spores at a manageable level if they cannot be eradicated totally.

Panic over for now:roll:
The very nice young man was stumped so he went to get the other senoir guy out of surgery:shock:
They dont think it's EC as ony 1 eye and they tested her for Pasturella
They then got drops and a Uv light on her and have come to the conclusion it's not a tumour but that it's a deep scratch that has also infected the fluid inside the eye , she's dosed up with Baytril 2x a day and has some Tiacil drops 3x a day and back to see the (very) nice young man on Friday
**mental note to brush hair and not look so disheveled:oops:**
I will add a picture if I can tomorrow
If theres no improvement off to the specialist (my credit card is hiding at the back of my purse terrified)*mental note to investigate insurance*
