Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Pregnant? - very confused

I took in a male rabbit last month. He was unwanted by his old owner and his brother had escaped two days before I offered to take him. I've been waiting to finish my exams at uni until I book him in to be neutered. Well I finished my exams today but we've had a setback. My housemate noticed yesterday that my bun has been hopping around with hay in his mouth. When I returned this morning he'd made a nest and there were even two tufts of fur. Raises some questions since I worked out it's been 26 days since he was with his brother? Could he be a she and pregnant? I was told he was around 5/6 months old?

The only things that make me think he's (she's?!) not pregnant is the location of the 'nest' in the open and the fact it isn't complete. Any opinions appreciated. Guess it's a waiting game.

Yes it is possible that she is pregnant, you should really take the rabbit to vets to be sexed and then you will know for sure.

Where is the hutch? Indoor or outdoor?

If "she" is then please put plenty of bedding in with her as she will need to make a propper nest and they look ill once they have finnished pulling their fur.

My first thought was to rush him/her down to the vets to be sexed but I'm worried this would be stressful and require a lot of handling. He's been living in a two storey hutch but spending the day inside the house or in a run. I left him in the hutch today. Feel bad he's been on his own all day but don't want to risk too much manhandling.

The 'nest' is downstairs near one of the doors. I'd put a litter tray in the bedding area as that is where he wees but today i took it out and filled with hay and straw. However, it's been pulled out of the bedding area! Worrying.

Should I just leave him alone for now? (sorry I know he could be a she but I'm used to calling him a boy!)

I would just take him to the vets to be checked then you know for sure, no point in being not in the know and worrying, I have been there myself.

He should be fine re the handeling, when I take my rabs to vets they just sit on the table, usually the dont move out of fear but the vet knows how to handle them :)
