Vaccination Question

Yes, as long as there is 14 days between the two :)

Personally I'd get the Myxi done first as we are now in the 'high risk' season

Janex :)

Thanks Jane, I've already had it done today, vet said that the VHD is usually the one that *may* make them 'a bit off it' and to get this out of the way first? I really respect my vet, i think she's ace but she didn't do them this way around last time :?

I've always had Myxi done first but my buns have longer than 2 weeks between vaccines anyway.

I'm still wondering about this :? can anyone confirm that having it first isn't a problem?

They are vaccinated against Myxi every 6 months if that is relevant?

Ta very much :)

Mine will be having their next VHD before their Myxi. They had their last Myxi in March so the next is due the beginning of September. Bella's VHD is due in the middle of July and the vet said it would be fine for both her and T's VHD (his isn't due until September but I want them doing at the same time) to be done first. There will be a gap of about six weeks though so I don't know if that makes a difference.

The reason Myxi is usually given before VHD is that Myxi can be given from 6 weeks so as most people get a bun at 8 weeks it can have it's Myxi almost straight away....however VHD can only be given from 10 weeks so it makes sense to get myxi done whilst waiting for the extra 2 weeks to pass.

In an adult bunny it dosn't matter as long as their is a gap between vaccines.

I worry so much as Princess is not allowed VHD vaccine due to her respiratory damage from Myxi last year

Lexie has had neither vaccine and Bobby & Fiver have not had their VHDs.

Hmm. It says Cylap is 10-12 weeks. I didn't realise it took 21 days for immunity to develop though.

Maybe thats why it's given after the myxi, because myxi is 2 weeks isn't it?

Yes, but I know of some Exotics Specialist Vets that give both the Myxo and the VHD at the same time ............... They claim that the only reason the respective vaccinations data information sheets say to leave 14 days between them is because no research was done to see if it was 'safe' but in the Exotic's Specialists opinion it is safe and he has been doing it for years :?

Huh. :?

I'd still rather not risk it knowing how badly some bunsters react to just one vaccine. :(

My reasoning was that if it takes 21 days for immunity to develop from the VHD vaccine perhaps the immunity could be compromised by giving the myxi after just 14 days.

What do you think?

ETA- Is lapinject 21 days too?

According to the Cylap Data Info' a 14 days gap is recommended

No information is available on the safety and efficacy from the concurrent use of this vaccine with any other. It is therefore recommended that no other vaccines should be administered within 14 days before or after treatment with Cylap.

With Lapinject onset of immunity is 6 days- yet another reason why I use it rather than Cylap

Uses
For the active immunisation of rabbits to prevent mortality caused by viral haemorrhagic disease (VHD).
Onset of immunity: 6 days
Duration of immunity: 1 year

Harry and Heather had their VHD vaccines today, and they are having their myxo's in 2 weeks time. The vet said they usually do it the other way round but it actually doesn't matter - although I would leave 3 weeks if it was cylap first because it takes 21 days for immunity to develop.

The only reason I did it this way round was to get the VHD in sync with my other buns so the vet could use most of a vial of lapinject in one go.
