  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Picture added, Both eyes are like this! Is it more comon in some breeds? I have never seen it in my other bun

Yep, it looks normal to me :) IT might be more obvious in some bunnies due to different head shapes I guess :)

Thanks, Its strange cos sometimes it covers 50% of his eye and other times you can just see it. He was lying in hutch other day and his eyes where all glazed over and it freaked me out a bit!

I *think* I have seen this more in giants. Is this a possibility Tamsin? I suppose if it's a head shape thing then it could also be associated with certain larger head breeds?!

I don't see why not. I haven't had the opportunity to hang out with any giants so I'm not sure on them specifically. I was thinking more lops with the squarer heads might effect it?

Lexie (Dwarf Lop) has a very prominant third eyelid although it has become more noticeable since she had a severe infection in it earlier this year.

She only has one eye so not sure what the other side would be like.
