Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

lump under nipple on doe - advice please

Luciuslop

Alpha Buck
Have just discovered a lump underneath one of Crystle's nipples, its elongated and feels quite hard :( I am wondering if it might be a mammary tumour ? Its one of the nipples that baby has been suckling from quite a lot as not all her nipples have produced milk. The baby is almost 5 weeks, so he is being weaned now - would it be anything to do with that ? She hasn't been spayed yet due to having a baby and she is also still quite plump, so I was hoping for her to lose a couple more pounds first after baby is fully weaned. Your advice would be appreciated. Thnx

Can rabbits get mastitis or blocked nipples? It may be an infection but a tumour is another possibility.

Is it hot to the touch?

I have no experience though so would suggest vets trip. Hope she is OK?

No, its not hot to touch and her nipple looks normal, ie, not inflamed or crusty. She is well in herself and loves her baby now. We have a new vet ( covering whilst my usual vet is on maternity leave ) and she doesn't appear to be all that rabbit savvy, so I need as much info as poss to take with me.
