Can a bun test + for EC and then negative?

One of my buns tested positive for EC at the beginning of this year. She had previously been tested last August and she was negative so inbetween time she had picked EC up from somewhere. I had my other two bunnies that had used the same room as her tested for EC afterwards and they both tested negative.

My question is can a rabbit that tests positive for EC ever test negative again? Or will they always test positive as they have been exposed to EC?

Thank you,

The *theory* is they will always test positive for EC antibodies....indicating exposure.

Hi Sooz ,

Thank you. I have so many questions re: EC . I will post another one in a mo...don't want to bore you all....

I was hoping to bond Moffat (the bunny that tested positive to EC) to Harvey and Primrose back in January but had her tested for EC beforehand, even though she had tested negative less than 6 months previously. The test came back positive so I put her on a course of 6 weeks panacur. Harvey and Primrose were tested after Moffats result and their test came back negative.

I'm worried about bonding Moffat with Primrose and Harv now as Harvey is such a delicate bunny. I have other bunnies that I can bond Moffat with but Harvey always loved her but I don't want to put him at any risk as he is a delicate boy with dental probs and has a delicate tum.
