  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mallow

Hi my bunny Mallow seems to have some sort of either problem, or slight deformity in her right forepaw. It was really slight but i noticed it a while back as sometimes she lies with it outstretched. I had her at the vet and the vet said she was unsure and suspected either it had been broken and left to heal itself (she was from a breeder who didnt want her as she was no use for breeding or showing so i am unsure of her past) or some sort of neurological problem or similar that may have caused it. She said if it gets worse etc to go back. This was around a good few months ago. I have noticed that it does seem to have become worse as i watched closely when she was walking and its like sometimes she kind of walks on her knuckles if that makes sense. The left paw is fine - as are her hindlegs. Just wondering if anyone with any experience of this or similar has any advice? Thanks

Did the vet give you any Metacam?

My male rabbit Inky has a longterm problem with one of his paws and he just has a few drops everyday. He is weaned off it at them moment because the weather is warm and dry but when it's cold he tends to need it.

To be honest, I would ask for an x-ray and/or second opinion at least then you'll have some idea of what you are dealing with.

She gave her a painkilling injection when i went and said if it improves, we know shes in pain - and if it gets worse to bring her back. It stayed the same and didnt seem to bother her. But now that i've noticed it seems (imo anyway) to be a bit worse i have made an appointment for next week as i need to get all 4 myxo done anyway.
