Bonding bunnies

Gerbil43

Warren Scout
Had a situation where two sisters were neutered and one caught an infection. On vets advice Daisy ended up living in house for 6 weeks whilst on antibiotics (which we put on chocolate drops and in carrot slice sandwiches)and being hand fed with a special feed for a while. On (oh so grateful) recovery we tried to reunite the girls and all hell broke loose. They fought like mad despite being sisters and living happily side by side for initial months of life. Tried some of tricks on internet and also vets advice but to no avail. Even took them to Mum & Dads neutral garden but they just kept on scrapping until exhausted. Very upsetting to see indeed.
As a last resort (& because we loved them both) I spent Easter bank hols 2007 sitting with large water pistol in garden. Day 1 - sprayed them whenever they fought & they fought. Day 2 - sprayed them whenever they fought and especially whoever appeared to be the agressor but Candy started to run away. Day 3 (neighbours thought I was a madman!) sprayed Daisy more (& spoke firmly "No") as she was agressor and eventually fighting stopped. Daisy proved to be the dominant female but they quickly adapted to those roles and lived happily until last week when a ****** fox scared them to death.
Sorry there's a grim ending to the tale but the vets had never heard of the water pistol solution to bonding before and it worked for us and our adorable bunnies. Definitely worth a go if other ways fail.

Candy, Daisy & Pepsi we'll love you forever and always remember the joy you brought into our lives. Hope you're skipping high in those sunny grass fields up above

oh so they were literally scared to death? poor bunnies - so sorry you've lost them after all your hard work making them happy together :(

Many thanks Elve. It certainly did look like they were literally scared to death. At least they weren't torn up or carried away like some of the horror stories I've heard. We buried our lovely bunnies intact together with a little prayer and a load of tears. Our garden seems so empty without them. Not sure yet if we'll chance getting any more bunnies. Still mourning our lost pets and the thought of it happening again is a real concern.
Happy bunny keeping! Thanks again
