The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. quick question RE: BABIES

New Kit
Hi all thank you for info you have previously given

my rabbits babies by the date we found them would be 2weeks and 2days
although they are walking round the cage and have a full coat of fur - would you say they were older??

also they seem to be out of the nest a bit and mother knows we know they are there, i have cleaned the other side of cage would it be ok to clean out the nest and put fresh in or would the mother attack still?
i know they should be left alone as much as possible but most of the nest she has built with wood shavings anyway which has been in the cage prevous to her giving birth and i was a little worried with them been out the nest and walking about its maybe not clean enough?

any advice would be great thanks

Hi  I wouldn't clean the nest yet i would give it another week or so i would say if the babies are out and about that there about 3 weeks old if mum will let you i would start handling them

ok thanks, she doesnt seem to bothered when we open the door where the nest is but does run forward - suppose this is instinct to protect them, at this age will she kill them if we touch them?

No she won't kill them i handled mine 24hrs after they were born then every day since and i had no problems and milly gave birth about 2 weeks after i got her and she was very frightened of me and still is but she was happy for me to look and touch her babies

Many people say they're three weeks when they move about...but plenty move out at two weeks. I found mine outside the nest books when they were hardly two weeks old:roll: Sleeping just in front of it...I moved them back in again... They started testing their legs the following week and at three weeks they were fully mobile. I've seen two week old bunnies tumbling along on the clumsiest feet ever:lol: They're so cute!

lol
thanks for all your replies
the rabbits are all lively and running about now
i have noticed one of them drinking out of the water bottle is this ok? and also should i be giving them anything else at the moment?

If the nest is very dirty you can lift the clean part off the top, clean underneath and then put the top part back :)

I would do what Tasmin says but if mum is happy start handling, I handled the new babies born here at less that 24 hours old due to them all falling out of the nest!!! their mums were on holiday here at the time!! i wasn't told they were pregnant!!!
