  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Getting male bunny fixed advice please..

He's going next week and I want to find out all I can about his care when he comes out of the vets office. I'm sure they'll give advice but I would also like some real world from experience advice please on som e tips to help him out afterwards.

Make sure you have got his favour veggies as Honey wasn't interested in eating hay or pellets when she had her op. Bring the bunny indoors if not an indoor bunny. Don't put hay or sawdust in the litter tray as this will get stuck to the wound just some newspaper. I put an old fleece blanket in Honeys crate.

When Lopsy was spayed. I brought a hutch inside (she usually outside). I put a towel as her bed. Put her hay in a rack (although she never ate it). Put a few small toys in. A bowl of water & food, full of her goodies. I also used hot water in the water bottle. And wrapped her in a towel.

She did however have to be taken back to the emergency vets for fluids & painkillers. Within a couple of days she was fine.

They are all different, it is hard but its the right thing to do!

All the best!! :D

 i spoil mine for a couple of days, makesure you hav etheir favoruite foods and keep them comfey and warm. just keep a watch and make sure they dont nibble at the wounds!

Plenty of cage rest for 24hrs or so, just no exerting them or letting them jump about too much, could disturb the wound.

Boys bounce back surprisingly quickly is the feeling I get :)

The vet should make you an appointment for a couple of days afterwards for a post op check up.

Sending lots of vibes hoping it goes well :)
