  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Snuffly bun - should I worry?

My Penny 'Pocket' has always been a snuffly bun. She has sneezing fits about every other day that I know of and this usually leads to a little bit of milky discharge out of her nose. She also sounds bunged up - do you know what I mean? She is now nearly ten months.

Penny, along with all my other buns, get a thorough health check when they go for they're myxi jabs every six months. The vet always listens to her chest and everything else and he says there is nothing to worry about. Just so long as she is behaving normally, eating, drinking etc. Well she is. She eats for England and runs around the garden like a mad bun!

Should I be worrying or is it just one of those things? I knew when I got her she was a little runt - she was the last one of the litter and nobody seemed to want her bless her so muggins here got her!

My mummy says I'm a little 'runt'!

Any thoughts would be apprecited.

My Biscuit is exactly the same as yours - Even looks similar!!. Biscuit suffers from blocked tear ducts caused by tooth roots growing upwards into them. She's fine except for weepy eyes and a bunged up nose. She's always on eyedrops and has to have her ducts flushed out every so often.

Hello :)

It would be a good idea to monitor her weight. Snuffly Buns tend to loose condition ( weight) when their Snuffles is more active.

I have found Benadryl to be very useful for my Snufflers, aswell as antibiotics if active infection is present. The Benadryl, an antihistime syrup used for children, can help soothe the Buns inflammed nasal tissue. This applies whether the inflammation is due to infection or alergy. Do speak with your Vet before administering Benadryl to your Bun though
