  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Nibbles says "It's too hot Mum!!"

My poor stroppy madam is too hot.
I got her up this morning, and she was sprawled out at the top of the ramp in her hutch. I stuck my finger in to say "hello Nibbles" and she growled - not unusual! Anyways, She didn't get exited for food time, instead, she decided to keep rolling over and sprawling out.
I got worried about my little madam and I've brought her into my flat. I've got her to eat so it's not tummy troubles, and she's been running around and causing all kinds of mischief.
She's now realised it's quite hot in the flat too and is crashing out in draft places. She's had her mouth open too like she's panting.

Is there anything I could give her to make her comfier??

My poor little diva :(

When Billy was hot the other day, I got him a bowl full of ice and water, it cooled him down!! :D And the ice is crunchy so its a fun toy too ;)

You can get those slabs (only seen them in P@h so far though I think :?) that go in the fridge & are nice and cool to lie on :) X

A 2 litre bottle like an empty coke bottle filled with water and frozen works really well too.
In hot weather I have one in the freezer and one out :)

Our rabbits are in the kennels at the moment (3 roomed breezeblock shed, used for breeding dogs before we moved in!) We had bought an mobile air conditioning unit a couple of weeks ago to keep them cool, we also had fans blowing. Today it was still up at 27 degrees, so I phoned Mike and told him to take home 2 more ( on for each room, they only have half walls)-£140 ish, but they are down to 17 already. I guess I'll not be having any wine for the next few months while I pay this off,it better be a blooming good summer after this. Thing is we are in the process of building new runs outside, as the old ones are no longer secure, so the rabbits will hopefully be outside soon.

Mind you we've made good use of the hot weather and started bonding Snowy , Jess and Jessica- they're all too hot to make a fuss.:D
