  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Harvey now totally blind :(

Harvey developed cataracts in both eyes a few months ago - one eye was much worse than the other but he still had some vision in his right eye. Sadly yesterday I noticed his good eye had gone totally cloudy too which explains why he was bumping into things.

On a positive note though he is now fully bonded with Daisy (although I'm sure they could take or leave each other!) so I'm hoping she understands and looks after him. It must be reassuring for him to have her around.

Harvey manages to get around ok, he can find his cage and litter tray, I just feel so sorry for him. We've just moved into our new house with a garden for the pets to enjoy as we've never had a garden before and he's never going to see it

Awwww I am sure he will cope just fine :) Even if he wont see the garden he will still enjoy being out in the fresh air and feeling the sunshine on his back :)

awww poor boy - I'm sure he'll still find pleasure in life though, although he might feel a bit timid out in the open garden just because it's so noisy, and he'll be relying on his hearing more now - It might be a good idea to confine him to a cat carrier at first till he gets used to all the new smells and sounds - if he bolted through being startled, he could hurt himself. Least you'll be able to pick him grass and dandelions now (let the weeds grow! :D)
