Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

hi,i have done the most stupid stupid thing ever and am so worried,i had'nt set the measuremant on the syringe properly so when i gave little moo her dosage she got half the tube.i,m so scared she is only a small holand lop.will she be really ill,or worse-die????i feel sick, please help

gosh, i don't know, i know it's hard to overdose the panacur but half the syringe is 9 graduations isn't it? can you call an emergency vet for advice (it would be free)? sooz is a bit of a panacur expert but i don't know when she'll be back on.

hope bunny is okay x

Sure it'd be more like "over-dosing" on the pill than actually overdosing on, say, painkillers?

I would imagine it has no effect on the nervous system so it wont slow breathing, or heart-rate etc.

I would search some threads as I'm sure someone else did this and phoned vets and poison control or something and it was ok. Do search though and maybe ask the person directly to see if this is the case. Hope your bun is fine.

thanks alot guys, just found the previous thread on the panacur overdose-i feel terrible but it's comforting to know i'm not the only one:oops:i will keep a close eye on her but fingers crossed things will be ok.thankyou

Can't help on the overdose but have looked online and there isn't any advice I can find.

Might it be an idea to measure the dose out onto a dandelion leaf or similar to administer? This would prevent the accidental 'oversquirt'.

Don't worry at all as I had to get my vet to ring the poisons unit at 10pm one night as I had given a rabbit an 8day dose in one go (the tube was faulty) and they said it would not do any harm what so ever as it is tested at about 200 to 300 times of the dosage required.

thanks everybody for all your advice, moo seems absolutely fine 2day except for a fair few squidgey poops!so should i carry on with her normal dose 2day or give her system a few days to digest that lot???thanks again

I expect all that stuff would do would give them a runny botty.....

Just check they don't loose too much fluids, maybe keep them off greens for a day or so.

Make sure you keep botty area clean.

I was just about to put the most you would expect to see is a few loose stools.....but you've already found that out

Just keep an eye on her and they should return to normal within the next day or two.....she may not eat her ceacals either as I bet they taste pretty vile with all that Panacur in!
