Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How long should it take for recovery after a spay?

Sugarbunny

We took Angel (rescue bunny) to be spayed yesterday and although it went fine she still barely eating and barely moving. She has been to the loo though. When we had Merry and Pippin done they seemed to be a lot better the next day, so is it okay for Angel to still be subdued a day later? What's the normal recovery time, or does it vary from bunny to bunny? (Her stitches/wound look fine as she was stretched out in front of her heat lamp)

I've had 2 buns done and they both recovered really quickly, (i.e. back to normal after a day or so) so guess it can depend from bun to bun. Honey pulled every single one of her stiches out after 5 days though! When I took her back to the vet he couldn't find any there to take out, luckily the wound had healed up by then.

Is Angel older than when you had the other buns spayed? I believe the older ones/ chubbier ones, can take a bit longer to recover. Mine were still quiet the day after, although in the evening one was attacking the other
As long as she is eating/drinking/weeing/pooing and not too cold I don't think you need to be too worried. Has she perked up at all since yesterday?

Angel is younger than when the others were done, she is about 2, and they were 3 years old! Quite please as I've just been out to the hutch and she was eating some cabbage, so I guess an improvement!:)

I think it varies from bun to bun. When I had Sooty done it took him a day or so to start getting back to normal but Honey was fine the day I bought her home. Started to pick at her stitches as well.

That's good I hope she continues to perk up, I'd just make sure she is warm and is drinking ok too :)

I had lopsy done a few weeks ago now, i brought her home and she wasnt moving, drinking, eating, weeing or pooing, she was very cold too, i rang the vets and they took her in! She stayed there all night and day and i collected her the next evening, she was still abit off it.

So it took her about 2days to come round...

If you are at all worried, contact your vets :)
