cheaper neutering?

bunlover

Warren Veteran
my original vets charged 90 pounds if i had had dora done there now due to hamster mis diagnosis and a few other things i have changed vets... i still want to get dora speyed but am not sure which vets, the vets that were fab with hamsters and made oatsy better have a vet very nice who specialises in small animals she classed rabbits as exotics when i asked and seemed good, now when i asked about price it is only £53 pound to spey dora here, am concerned that means that there is a big price diff i asked what price included and it seems everything...anestetic, wages, pre and post check all ater care pain relief etc etc...
so to compare i rang another vets who said between 77 -90 pouonds (dependant on rabbit vet) and mums vet said 90 pounds should i be happy with a good deal or should i be suspect cuz price is cheaper? i also cant find the thread which says which qs to ask can anyone highlight it for me?
nb new vets would be nicola at beeches vets in slough if anyone can reccomend them that would help

lower price doesn't always mean a poorer service :) If you think the vet sounds knowledgeable enough then go for it. I paid £45 to have to youngest doe spayed (normally 55 but I already had a bottle of metacam) and the vet is quite rabbit savvy.

I am not sure about rabbits, but the having the boy guinea pigs done was 30.00, the female cat was 45.00 and the female dog was 145.00.

I would like to have wiggy done, so I could invest in a female friend for him:love:

I've paid between £60 and £70 for speys before, I know some of the rescues pay as little as £40 :)

At my vets its £40 for a neuter and £60 for a spay. But i rung round a few vets and the prices varied dramatically, from the £40 i paid to £60 -£80 and one vet even quoted me £125 aqs they, i quote, "give the rabbit a full MOT and service" to which i replied what you change his oil filter and give hima full valet. She couldn't really justify what a full MOT was exaclty. I only paid £40 and i was very please with the service i got, he got a pre - op and 2 post op checks included in that price as well.

i use a vets in south woodham ferrers and i am very happy with them, they charge £40 to spay and £35 to neuter

I was going to be paying £56.00 at my vets for a male bun, Which is a fantastic vets, it the one that 'The Duchess' mentioned. Ivan is fantastic, just depends if you are able to travel that far. :)

I paid £30 for Skid (male neuter), £41 I think for Otis (male neuter) and my vets quoted around £56 for Nuggette (female spay) but I may have to change vets given a change in circumstances, but the vets here charge the same and are very bunny savvy.
Of course prices do vary depending on what drugs are needed during the op, especially if there are any complications.

When I've asked other vets the prices varied between £35 and over £100 for female spay. Crazy difference

It is £52 per doe at my vets... I have both of them booked for 2nd June and Bandit has to have a quick umbilical hernia taken out so altogether we are looking at £150!
Luckly i returned my Glastonbury ticket so thats paid for that :D

My vets in Goodmayes charges £30 spay and £15 neuter, which includes the lot, my actual vet is very rabbit savvy and has such a great attitude, the first time i went there i came away already thinking id made a new friend!

I just paid £86 for Boo to be spayed that includes the pre-op check which is about £10. She didn't have any problems though and recovered extremely quickly so it was worth it.:D

I dont get how prices vary so much :? My spays were £140 and £170 within a month of each other at the same vet with no complications. This didnt include health checks because I paid for them the week before each spay. Does medication and stuff cost more for certain vets? I know it depends on what they use but there cant be that many different things to use so surely its pretty limited on the different types of options

hiya, i hope all goes well for your baby, i know how stressfull having the op is. not sure of the right q's to ask, but these are the ones i asked when i was checkin shauny in for his op some of the q's are male related but id ask them anyway. a good rabbit vet will be able to answer all of them (think i did come across like a mother hen when i asked all my q's, the receptionist was dumb struck and had to put me through to a vet:).
how many buns do they neuter a week (one response was not even 1 a week, another i got was bout 8-9:)
how many sucessfull neuters have they done male and female (and if they lost any why?)
do they make entry through the scrotum or abdomen (should be scrotum).
what annastetic do they use (isoflo is the best and they use that in children, it gas not injection) erm im sure i asked:) more but cant think.
xxx

my (popppy's ;) ) spay was £55 and i was really happy with her treatment, have you asked them some sample questions about rabbits to check how rabbit savvy they are? I dont think that sort of price range is suspect, I would be reluctant to pay £90 myself unless there was a very good reason.

My vets charge £65 for bucks and £85 for does but they keep them until they are eating, drinking and pooing properly, if they have to keep them for longer they dont charge anymore, they are brilliant very bunny savy and all my bunnies have come back bright eyed and happy. :D
