  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

something not right with Nemo.....

bunnymadhouse

Wise Old Thumper
cant put my finger on anything in particular with Nemo but something is not quite right:? :?

hes no spring chicken anymore ...nearly 5 now ...but doesnt have mobility probs or anything .
never had teeth trouble .
had a back injury when he was around 1 but recovered from near paralisis amazingly .

he does have sludgy wee ..but this has never caused probs and he did have a bout of stasis a few month ago but recovered quickly and went back to normal.

He doesnt seem as eager for food as usual ....even if he does come begging he doesnt always take what is offered . he ignored a pile of parsely yesterday:shock::roll:
And his hay eating has definatly gone downhill this week .

we are booked in at vets for vaccs next tuesday and will get him a good check over before he has his.....
im hopeing we re not starting with teeth probs :( :(

any ideas :? could it be his bladder ?

It sounds like whatever it is is causing him to feel discomfort, though maybe not actual pain.

My first thought would be his teeth and if not that then should he have any stones or anything built up in his bladder that would certainly be making him feel under the weather.

Has he been on a low calcium diet?

Angie i've no real insight but Sooty does this every so often, he just seems not quite right and not as eager to eat me as usual. I have started putting it down to a little tummy upset as there is nothing wront that either me or thevet can find and he's usually back to normal a couple of days later. Perhaps it's just something like that?

Yes, Inky seems to get this too.

The only other thing I can think of (aside from teeth) is he he moulting? If he is, he may have the start of a 'furball' and moulthing can make them feel a bit under the weather anyway.

yes hes moulting...and he was last time he had stasis ....but im brushing him everyday and clearing away the fluff . :?

did cross my mind though :?

If he sustained a boney injury as a younger Bun he may now have a bit of osteoarthritis setting in.
You could ask the Vet about trying him on a low dose of Metacam for 3-4 days to see he that makes any difference to his vague symptoms of 'not rightness'

Janex :)

his vague symptoms of 'not rightness'

Janex :)

I wonder how many times the forum members have gone to their vets and said "There's something not right with ****" and the poor vet has said "what are the symptoms?" and the embaressed rabbit fanatic has stood there and said "Nothing specific, s/he's just not right".

I know Im guilty :oops::lol:
