Hi,
I was just wondering how often peoole get their rabbits mixi boosters done. I know that they last for a year. But Ive just had my rabbit at the vets for her booster and they are recommending every 6months. I wasnt sure if this was because I have recently lost a rabbit to mixi (my other rabbit never got it). Has anyone got any suggestions? I dont mind at all having it done every 6 months if it is worth it.

yes it is at max strength for 6months and if in high risk area(natrually due to prev bun) you should get it done every 6mnths hope this helps x

Thanks for that. To be on the safe side Ill be getting it done every 6 mnths. I still dont know how my other rabbit never caught it as they lived together.

it is not passed rabbit to rabbit but by biting insects therefore if a mozzi that was infected bit one it may or may not bite another you were fortunate only one got ill i know that sounds bad. i too hav a bun who got myxi last year luckily she pulled thru(she was vaccs and had nodular) 6months is prob for best.

Myxi is spread by biting insects (blood to blood contact) mainly although it can be spread by discharge from an infected rabbit. It sounds like you were very luckily and the insect that transfered it only bit one bunny.

The recommendation is 6 months in high risk areas or annually in the spring ahead of the main myxi season. I vaccinate 6 monthly to be sure :)

 all depends on what part of the country you live in. my gang have it every 6 months as mixi is very common here as a farming area.

Hi,
Thanks for all the info Ill be definately getting my bunny done every 6 months as we live in the countryside and there are quite a lot of mixi rabbits around at times. Even more so seen as I lost poor Bobby to mixi and it was horrible. I would hate to go through that again. My rabbit I have left is a house rabbit but I know that the mixi flea can still be brought into the house and she does go outside in her run in the summer.
