  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rear Guard

How does everyone manage to get rear guard on their rabbits? Normally I have help, I get someone to hold her while I apply it. But this time round I have to try and manage on my own and I'm a bit lost how I'm supposed to do it - I just don't seem to have enough hands/ or perhaps I just need bigger hands?

know that feeling it was a real preformance with snowy and dora they struggeld and kicked and scratched me bless them but eventually we got there tho they hated me for rest of day i had to bribe them with carrots to come in !!!

Sorry to hijack your thread, but i'm looking on line to buy some, but the one i got said you needed a perscription for some. Anyone got an address for some, without a vets perscription?

i nipped into our vets told them i needed some for my buns and they let me buy some i didnt need a prescription? hmm that slightly bothers me now.

You need to get rearguard from your vets. I'm not going to use it on Honey but I used to on my previous bunny when he was old and slightly overweight and he was fine on his backon my lap.

I don't love having my thread hijacked, but you've got a vaild question so I'll let it pass!

You do not need a prescription to buy Rearguard, I've never brought Rowans with one, I just ask the vets if I can buy some for my rabbit and thats it.

anyway -
I'd try putting her on her back, but she hates being held- and hates it even more being on her back. She won't stay still, so rather than try and hold her down and risk her getting hurt I let her go.
