Has anyone ever heard of

Fifibutton

Wise Old Thumper
a rabbit having a hole in the iris? Mona has had this mark in her eye for years. The vet did all sorts of tests to no avail so he called in a specialist. I always thought it was a pigment but it turns out it is a hole in her iris. Apparently she has double vison in that eye and is photosensitive but otherwise her sight is fine (which I can well believe as she has a damn good aim when it comes to pouncing:lol:) . No treatment is required either. The specialist believed she had been born with it. My vet who is brilliant with rabbits (keeps them himself) and has been in the game for a long time had never seen it in an animal before.

So I wondered if anyone else has a pet or even knows a human with this.

Here is the hole in Mona's brown iris just below her blue iris. Her other eye is completely normal.

not seen a bun with one but bella (one of our dogs) has that in one eye :) we thought it was just a dark bit until it flashed green on a photo

It had me soooo worried before it was diagnosed. Its very unusual then. I think it acts as a second pupil and lets mor elight in thus causing the double vision

I think it definatly is as my rabbit savvy vet had to call in an optical specialist!! I'm glad it wasn't something nasty like a cataract though. I learn something new about rabbits every time I go to the vet. He talks to me in vet language though so not all of it makes sense :oops:

That's a good photo! It does indeed look like a hole, really facinating but not something I've heard of before. What a rare bunny you have :)
