Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Urine related hair loss?

Gem

Wise Old Thumper
Where Stripes is unable to clean herself or lift herself up to urinate, all the hair on her under side has peeled away from the skin.

The skin is clean with no redness or sores and she has sudocreme and a soothe gel from pampered piggies applied daily to keep it soft and smooth

Will the hair start to grow back or will it stay bald?

 Bandit lost some of his fur where the fur went into folds of the skin..his leg fold ect esp.....

hopefully the fur will grow back..we were lucky his did but his wasnt the worst id ever seen but it was bald and red....god ole sudocrem where we be without it..

poor stripes hos is she coping? maybe the first layer of skin came away and so did the fur? hope she doesnt get too sore......

has she got to the point of being in a nappy instead?

I've had 3 rescue rabbits with baldness due to urine scald and all the hair grew back within a month or two

The hair will only grow back properly if the urine is kept off the skin.

My Crunchie currently has a bald bum due to muscle weakness in her sphincter (sp?) causing urine to leak out. ATM we seem to have found the right balance of medicines, so she's much dryer, and her fur has started to grow back already after only a week :D

The issue is because she can't clean herself there is always going to be some degree of wetness :?

She is bedded on vetbed and will be for the rest of her life.

She's doing brilliantly, apart from the obvious disfigurement you'd not really know she's so ill :)

Thanks guys :thumb:
