  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

When to seperate baby buns

Hi all if you have a male and female baby rabbits what week or age do they need to be seperated at to stop any unplanned litters?

i believe they can be neutered from 8 weeks and they definately need to be seperated by about 12 weeks ( i think - i'm really just bumping this up for you)

i believe someone also recently said that rebonding is easier if you get them done sooner rather than having to seperate them once hormones have kicked in :)

Hi, 10 - 12 wks is the norm, but you still have to be careful and check to see if the boys testicles have dropped - some can be earlier developers. I separated my boy from the girls at 12wks, his testicles dropped about 2wks later. The girls were spayed at 16wks.

Where are you getting bunnies done at 10-12 weeks? I have rang every vet around here and for both male and female the earliest I could find was 16 weeks, but most wouldn't do either before 6 months!

boys can be done as soon as thier balls drop... it's the females who need to wait til 16 weeks :)
